our simple welcome back teacher gift

Alex's teacher left on medical leave right before Christmas and returned last week. We thought a sweet and simple welcome back gift was more than appropriate. And I actually made one!

Who wouldn't want to be greeted on a Monday morning with a big smile full of daisies? (my all time favorite flower btw!)

Are you a big teacher gifter? I'm usually a total fail in that department. With three kids we have 6 teachers to love on! So usually at the end of the school year I try to make up for my lack of creative cutesy gifts I just know the other Moms are providing. But this year I'm trying to be better. After all, they're responsible for my kids education. And yes, I do totally hope Hershey kisses make my kids teachers like them more than the next kid. There, I said it.

Lovin' on Love

In preparations for Valentine's Day (A holiday, to me, that's really just an excuse to dress my girl up in pink, red, hearts and bows...) I thought I'd try out a new nail-do on Love's nails. She totally loves them!

What's not to love?

Are you preparing for the big love day? I'll be busting out the pink this week!

back to the home making

After being rocked by the holidays I'm ready to get back to making this house more like ours.

We'll be trying to finish the basement this year. But before that I need to finish up some projects I've already started. Until I get my thoughts together here are some images that have been inspiring me lately...

Another year older

Yep, I'm another year older since I last posted. 29.

So far I've made a few big steps towards my 30x30 goals and I can't wait to share with you the biggest one yet!

Drum roll please....

I just signed up for my first 5k! The Color Run!

What?! I know! To most people that probably isn't that big of a deal, but to me its huge.

I'm an on again, off again jog/walker. Not a runner! Not at all. But I've decided that to make this 30x30 thing work I need to start setting some serious goals and mini deadlines. I already had a 5k somewhere in the near future in my mind when a friend called and told me about the Color Run in April. I said yes! After all, if you're going to do a 5k (and your first one at that) you might as well make it "the happiest 5k on the planet" not to mention one that's not timed! Nope, no timing. Even kids can do this thing.

How hard should that be right? .... Well, I do intend to keep up with my gang of friends who are 5k runners, that's my personal challenge. And it is called the Color Run, not the Color pant while you Walk.  Besides, I'd like to do better than I would have thought possible in the first place. That's the point of goals right?

That being said....I have about 11 weeks to prepare for it. The family is totally behind me and I can't wait to show them what I can do. Honestly...all the thoughts racing through my head about why or how I will possibly pull this off turn straight to an image of my kids being proud of me, color and all.

Can't wait to make it happen!

Any big leaps you need to take this year?

our marriage resolutions

Do you make New Year's resolutions? I'm all over it. I'll be sharing my 2013 goals in time. But for now here's a few Alan and I came up with.

This year we took the time to go over a few goals for the year. Of course most of our planning focused on home updates. But I made sure we took a moment to reflect on us. He's so lucky.

We made a few rules for ourselves...a no phone zone and greetings.

When we are together there is to be a "no phone zone" around us. Of course if the phone rings we are able to answer. But otherwise, no web surfing, no news reading, no Pinning!, no Facebook... nothing. Our conversations have been lacking any real substance lately. So to help us to be more mindful of each phones.

Secondly, greetings.  (I did steal this one from Gretchen.) In addition to being more mindful while we're together we also need to work on how we greet each other when we come and go. It's super easy for me to allow the three kids to run and hug his legs when he comes home from work while I just keep on my business. Same for him.  But we should also be excited to see each other. So, now we greet.

These are just a few simple adjustments for us to stay connected.

Do you have any marriage resolutions?

Way to Go Andy!

For the first time ever my oldest has made straight As!  Super proud Mama over here!

Happy New Year!!

Happy 2013 Friends!

The entire Christmas season is always the most chaotic for me. (note: zero attention to blog) On top of all the traditional pressure of the month, I tend to feel a huge disconnect from my life, my faith and my energy during this time.  All of which leads up to a grand finale of "What did we accomplish this year?" And who doesn't want to feel completely overwhelmed when they reflect on their life? Some years have been a major gulp. This year, for ourselves, we were proud. (Wouldn't it be lovely if every person could say the same?)

A lot can happen in a year. Friends move, families grow, parents get sick, jobs are changed and loved ones are lost. If you're like our family, something as simple as an address change can give your life a complete turnover. But I'll take turned upside down over stagnate any day.

It seems a new year, a new day, a new season is the perfect time to refocus. Maybe our situation doesn't allow for a physical change.  Maybe the changes we need to make are more spiritual or mental. For myself's all of the above.

I truly hope to use this next year (the last one in my 20s thankyouverymuch) to benefit the rest of my years. After all...everything starts today!
