{part 4} What I love most about my home...the fireplace

The fireplace in our current home was one of the major selling features for us. Other houses we looked at in the neighborhood had much smaller mantles. Ours seemed larger, grander and really just more to scale with the room. I still find myself checking out other people's fireplaces and realize how much I love ours. Just like the other areas of my home I've featured so far, the fireplace has been a pivotal point in memory making for our family.

The fireplace is the backdrop for our annual back-to-school-photo...

It's where we hang our Christmas stockings and the Easter Bunny fills our baskets...

It gets dressed for holidays...

love a spider infested Halloween mantle!

and birthdays...

AdaLove's first birthday party banner

Andy's Spy party birthday banner

as well as other special occasions...

AdaLove's baptism luncheon. (Doilies, gold paint stenciled letters and twine banner)

and, of course, we use it as another photo backdrop in our home...

And that really just covers the looks of it. When the weather turns cold we love hanging out in front of the fireplace with pillows, blankets, hot cocoa and any random story the kids can come up with.

My favorite time of year is when the time changes in the fall and night comes upon us earlier. The kids are forced to come in and play with their parents, opposed to ditching us for the neighborhood kids. It's this time of year we turn the focal point of our living room, and our life, from the TV to the fireplace. I look forward to "fireplace time" each year.

What memories do use your fireplace for?
